Day 201: Kites

Today was the kite festival on the Mall.  We all went and had a great time flying our kite!

Day 200: Ouch

This is NOT what I wanted to see when I picked my poor iPhone off of the pavement yesterday. Luckily it's been replaced, but I was not happy at all.

Day 199: Train travel

After New Haven, I took the train up to New York for a conference, and then today I took Amtrak back to Washington. 

Day 198: Happy hour

Went to New Haven and had our quarterly meeting, after which we did happy hour.

Day 197: Lunch

Since I work from home, I rarely go out for lunch.  But today I had a meeting out, so I treated myself to some really nice sushi.

Day 196: Clock

We finally put a new battery in the clock. It works again!

Day 195: Puri

It was my first time making puri on my own, and they turned out really nicely.  S and the in-laws were impressed!

Day 194: Gudhi Padwa

We took my in-laws to the mandal's Gudhi Padwa event way out in the Virginia suburbs. We all had a good time, although baby spilled water all over his nice outfit, so he had to put on his pajamas.

Fail.

It was so busy today that I didn't get a chance to take a photo!

Day 193: Glorious

We went down to the Tidal Basin on a lark to see the blossoms, and we were handsomely rewarded.

Day 192: Cherry blossom time

The cherry blossoms are just about peaking now.

Day 191: Happy Nowruz

S celebrated the Persian New Year by going to a Middle Eastern shop and buying this giant flatbread, among other things.

Day 190: Oops

I was taping up this parcel and suddenly I couldn't find the envelope I also wanted to send...because I had taped it to the bottom of the package! 

Day 189:Happy boy

Day 188: Cousins

My lovely cousin took a spontaneous trip down just to visit us. We had a great evening going out to dinner and then relaxing at home while S had to work.

Day 187: Playseum

Bubs had a great time at the Playseum today.  It's basically an indoor space full of rooms for toddlers and kids. He spent most of his time in the fire truck.

Day 186: Fail

A different kind of failure this time. It was so warm that my cookies were a complete failure.  I threw out half the batter rather than continue making them.

Day 185: Landscaping

Oh, how I wish this was our front yard. Our next door neighbors have had their whole front yard torn up and redone, and it looks really nice.

Day 184: Celebrity (sort of) spotting

We went to dinner at our local Mexican restaurant and sat outside, because it was so warm out. This dude was brought in off the street by a lady at the table next to us because he is a local celebrity.  I didn't know who he was, but it turns out he is this guy.

Day 183: Snacks

I had this at a party a few weeks ago, and now I've been buying it for home. Must stop doing that.

Day 182: Happy birthday

We enjoyed a homemade South Indian dinner at our friends' home, celebrating the birthdays of these two wonderful kids!

Day 181: Happy Holi

We took a drive out to the local ISKCON temple to celebrate Holi.  We were not really prepared for what greeted us. Hundreds of people were surely getting into the Holi spirit by throwing colors everywhere!  Baby A had his first taste of Holi as well.

Day 180: A rare night out

S and I have not had a nice dinner out together in quite a long time.  So we sprung for a babysitter and went to a nice Spanish restaurant that had a wonderful vegetarian menu.

Day 179: Octy!

A is clutching one of his favorite toys called Octy.

Day 178: Music

And so I was in the right place.  Guinness (albeit way too cold), an Irish bartender, wonderful ragtime, and a nice chat at the bar.  It was a wonderful night!

Day 177: Mona's

I took a trip to New York today, and I met a friend for a lovely dinner and Broadway play.  I was having such a good night that I couldn't bear to go back to the hotel.  I stopped to get a cup of tea, and I looked online to see where I could hear some jazz.  I discovered that Gordon Webster (a brilliant pianist who is well known to us swing dancers) was playing in a small quartet at Mona's in the East Village.  So I took the subway down and saw this sign as I walked up.  I knew I was in the right place...

Day 176: Cookies

Our order of Girl Scout cookies arrived!

Day 175: Mattar gobi

My usual cauliflower dish for dinner tonight.

Day 174: Baby yoga

On Saturdays, A and I go to baby yoga.  We always have lots of fun.

Day 173: Baby up

Baby was able to sleep in a bit since nanny came to our house again today!

Day 172: On our way out

Our nanny came to our house today to watch A, and S was at home, so we had a full house.  S and I went out for an appointment in the afternoon.
